Prevented Customs Distribution Excise 4.8 Million Counterfeit Cigarettes
Directorate General of Customs and Excise again attempt to prevent the distribution of 301,551 packets or equivalent 4.82 million sticks of cigarettes with counterfeit tax bands. Cases which cause losses to the state estimated USD 1.13 billion for allegedly involving three tobacco companies and five companies banderole fake sellers.

This case dealt with through cooperation with the central office and the Office of Supervision of Customs and Excise Service Associate Peacock on November 7, 2009. Hundreds of thousands of packs of cigarettes contained in a vehicle that will cross to the island of Sumatra.

"It is thought the tobacco came from Central Java and East Java," said Head of Public Relations Directorate General of Customs and Excise Evi Suhartantio when contacted by Tempo, Tuesday (17/11).

He could not mention the details of the three tobacco companies that use fake banderole. However, the three producers were classified as medium-sized companies with a cigarette brand the initials M, S, and A. Until now the Directorate of Customs and Excise were still investigating the three companies involved in this case. "The five companies have our salespeople follow," he said.
